At Circl, we believe in the new, circular economy and above all that we can only achieve it together by creating new forms of partnership. The Circl pavilion is built entirely based on circular principles using recycled and re-usable materials. It’s a living lab where we experiment with innovative solutions to meet the challenges of the future, an accessible platform, designed to facilitate unexpected encounters.
We want to persuade society to move towards a sustainable world by demonstrating the changes needed to create the circular economy, both in theory and in practice. In other words, thinking big by starting small. For everyone who doesn’t just want to talk about the circular economy but wants to start building it now, in whatever capacity, as an individual or as part of a large corporate, start-up or non-profit organisation. Regardless of whether you’ve been involved with the concept for some time or have only just heard about it, wherever you are on the journey towards a sustainable world – just start.
It all began with the dream of ABN AMRO contributing to a sustainable world in which nothing we make, buy or use goes to waste. A new cycle of production and consumption, for a new economy: a circular economy where all raw materials can be re-used. You can spend as long as you like talking about sustainability, or you can just get down and do it. We’ve started the move towards a sustainable world by concentrating on ourselves.
After all, we are the economy. We’re not just a bank, but we’re also a group of private citizens, businesspeople and employees. And so we came up with the idea of building the circular pavilion: Circl: a building constructed entirely on circular principles, where even the insulation is made of fibres taken from 16,000 pairs of old jeans donated by the bank’s employees. With a lift that remains the property of the manufacturer and is leased on a use-only basis. What you need to learn to do, you learn by doing. We hope that everyone will use the new knowledge and experience we have gained through the circular construction of this building. That’s why we don’t refer to what we’ve done at Circl as ‘copyright’ but rather as ‘right to copy’.
Dreaming. Daring. Doing and sharing
Circl is also the new hotspot in the Zuidas business district, with a restaurant and a rooftop bar. You can go to Circl to work, have a drink or a meal, meet people or attend a lecture. Circl is freely accessible to all – because everyone can make the difference. Connectivity is the key; it’s where everything of value begins. Circl is broad-thinking, inclusive and forward-looking. The approach is not ‘either … or’ but ‘and … and’. New connections, new solutions, new values. Change means guaranteeing tomorrow by acting today. We’re on our way. We have a dream! We are Circl. Who are you?
