WeMakeThe.City x STARTS Talks – The role of art in city innovation
For innovation to be of value for society, not only scientific and technological skills are needed. Critical skills and creativity rooted in artistic practices offer valuable contributions. The expertise and practice of artists can directly drive and influence innovation in different fields, like environmental sustainability, area development, or healthcare.
Art offers new perspectives, inspires new directions and acts as a catalyst for a successful and socially responsible transformation of new technologies into new products, services, and processes and new economic, social and business models. As part of the STARTS Talks series, we will highlight different international ánd local examples of promising collaborations between the private sector and the world of art and culture, together with the STARTS Prize 2018 winner. We will discuss how we can make technology more human, citizens more smart and societies more inclusive.

Circl, the circular hub during WeMakeThe.City
As lead partner on the theme circularity of WeMakeThe.City we, at Circl, have the opportunity to share our knowledge and expertise on among other things: circular building, circular procurement and all its effects with a broad target group. During WeMakeThe.City we will investigate the city as a service. If you would redesign the city – what would you need in terms of design, construction and finance to achieve this.
In our circular hub in the financial heart of Amsterdam, we will investigate circular, urban challenges together with various experts, clients and other guests. We want to investigate concrete steps to give shape to circularity in 2050. And we do this through the city as a service concept, which means using new ways of services and / or products in a city and a circular lifestyle that is coupled with this. In this way we want to initiate the circular transition and make our next step: to go from circular real estate, which we focus on, to a circular movement.
